A Review: Mechanism of Phyllanthus urinaria in Cancers—NF-κB, P13K/AKT, and MAPKs Signaling Activation

Abstract: Phyllanthus urinaria has been characterized for its several biological and medicinal effects such as antiviral, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, and immunoregulation. In recent years, Phyllanthus urinaria has demonstrated potential to modulate the activation of critical pathways such as NF-κB, P13K/AKT, and ERK/JNK/P38/MAPKs associated with cell growth, proliferation, metastasis, and apoptotic cell death. To date, there is much evidence indicating that modulation of cellular signaling pathways is … Show more

“…The P13K-Akt signaling pathway at the GM stage is significantly enriched ( Figure 2 C), indicating that it plays an important role in the proliferation of Shitou goose myoblasts and skeletal muscle development. The PI3K Akt signaling pathway is highly conserved in animals [ 54 ] and plays an important role in normal cell activities related to cell growth, proliferation, movement, survival, metabolism, and apoptosis [ 55 ]. The PI3K-Akt signaling pathway is also associated with muscle-related diseases and muscle development [ 56 ], indicating that this pathway may play an important regulatory role in Shitou goose muscle development.…”

“…In the brains of AD patients, most neuronal death is mediated by apoptosis and apoptotic neuronal death, which were likely to be important characteristics of AD [ 26 ]. PI3K-AKT is a major cell survival pathway that regulates apoptotic mechanisms and proteins associated with anti-apoptotic factors via phosphorylation [ 27 , 28 ]. As shown in Figure 6 , Osthole could act on multiple targets in the PI3K-AKT signaling pathway, as well as proteins highly associated with apoptosis (e.g., BCl-2, CASP3), suggesting its potential anti-AD mechanism mediated by apoptosis.…”
