“…SCC usually affects a single digit, more often the thumb, the second and the third fingers, but multiple digit involvement may be observed. Nail SCC displays a slow growth and low aggressive behaviour compared to other areas such as the lips and preauricular skin, with a very low rate of metastases reported . However, up to 60% of cases may present bone involvement and the main concern for clinicians are local recurrences.…”

“…However, up to 60% of cases may present bone involvement and the main concern for clinicians are local recurrences. Similar to BD, SCC of the nail can often be misdiagnosed as viral warts, onychomycosis and other benign lesions . Nail SCC may clinically present as a persistent nail bed hyperkeratosis associated with onycholysis, mimicking a wart, as a nail bed erosion/ulceration or as a nodule with a partial or total destruction of the nail plate (Fig.…”

“…Studies have shown strong associations with immunosuppression, current or previous tobacco use, toxin/radiation exposure, and trauma. [1] A number of studies have confirmed a causative role for HPV, mostly HPV16, in the development of this tumor. Bone involvement may occur but metastases are extremely rare.…”

“…SSCC rarely metastasize, but local recurrences are common [3] . This might be explained by the difficulties of its surgical treatment and to the frequently human papillomavirus-induced pathogeny of the tumor [4,5] .…”
