“…Although there were many reports from other countries of caffeine-related adverse effects caused by energy drinks or beverages to which powdered caffeine had been added [17][18][19], cases of ulcers and esophagitis resulting from the ingestion of caffeine in other forms have not been reported. Therefore, the liquid or powder form of caffeine is unlikely to be lodged in the esophagus, consequently resulting in a low risk of caffeine-induced esophagitis.…”

“…The fundamental life-threatening risks surrounding contamination of methanol in either hand sanitizers or alcoholic beverages include immediate damage to the optic nerve through the formation of formic acid by-products after ingestion of as little as 5 mL of methanol. [5][6][7] The damage to the optic nerve eventually leads to permanent blindness. Apart from the health risks associated with the ingestion of methanol, prolonged exposure to methanol vapours can also lead to dizziness, nausea, blurred vision and headache.…”

“…Worldwide, hundreds of economically constrained people are dying every year because of consumption of methanol (MeOH) contaminated illicit liquors. [1][2][3] In the countryside, use of crude fermentation methods and improper distillation are the main culprits for the MeOH contamination in ethanol (EtOH). In some cases, unavoidable MeOH formation during standard fermentation processes is also a major concern.…”
