A retrospective serological survey of hepatitis B virus infection in Northeast China

Abstract: Background Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a major public health burden in China although it has steadily declined over the last two decades. A valid updated prevalence of HBV infection in China relies on a large sample size. Hence this study aimed to estimate HBV seroprevalence using a large inpatient population in Northeast China. Methods We consecutively enrolled 218,627 inpatients aged 1–70 years admitted to the First Hospital of Jilin University from January 2… Show more

“…HBV infection is a global public health problem [15]. In China, there is a particularly high incidence of HBV infection [3][4][5]. Although routine HBV vaccination began in China in 1992 as part of the national vaccination programme, with HBV vaccinations free of cost since 2002 [14], our study suggests that it is essential for Chinese ALL survivors to revaccinate against HBV, especially after chemotherapy.…”

“…China has a high incidence of hepatitis B virus (HBV). Every year, approximately 10-20% of acute HBV cases will progress to chronic hepatitis, making prevention and control of this disease extremely important in China [3][4][5]. Childhood cancer survivors are at risk of HBV infection due to immunosuppression secondary to chemotherapy, radiotherapy and multiple blood transfusions [6].…”

“…Dr. Baig reported a male dominance in all categories of HBV infected patients [ 33 ]. As a recent survey also conclude that male HBsAg+ more dominant than female, and, an HBsAg+ of roughly 14% was found in middle-aged males, while 6.2% in females [ 34 ]. Furthermore, several studies looked in to the mechanisms of sexual disparities.…”

“…[33] As a recent survey also conclude that male HBsAg positive population is higher than female, and, an HBsAg positivity of roughly 14% was found in middle-aged males, while 6.2% in females of childbearing age. [34] Furthermore, several studies looked in to the mechanisms of sexual disparities. Yang et al identi ed a unique protein named apolipoprotein A-I in male, which sought to be the reason of HBV infection and related complications.…”
