Tooth anatomic factors, such as root abnormalities and fractures, and tooth relationships in the dental arch and with the opposing dentition can enhance plaque retention. Restoration margins located within the gingival sulcus do not cause gingivitis if patients are compliant with self-performed plaque control and periodic maintenance. Tooth-supported and/or tooth-retained restorations and their design, fabrication, delivery, and materials have often been associated with plaque retention and loss of attachment. Hypersensitivity reactions can occur to dental materials. Restoration margins placed within the junctional epithelium and supracrestal connective tissue attachment can be associated with inflammation and, potentially, recession. However, the evidence in several of the reviewed areas, especially related to the biologic mechanisms by which these factors affect the periodontium, is not conclusive. This highlights the need for additional well-controlled animal studies to elucidate biologic mechanisms, as well as longitudinal prospective human trials. Adequate periodontal assessment and treatment, appropriate instructions, and motivation in self-performed plaque control and compliance to maintenance protocols appear to be the most important factors to limit or avoid potential negative effects on the periodontium caused by fixed and removable prostheses.

Background: Squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity constituted a major healthproblem and can be a leading cause of death. Several studies link high risk Humanpapillomavirus -16 to oral squamous cell carcinoma as an important etiologicalfactor. Several molecular markers have also been the subject of an intenseresearch work, trying to clarify their role in oral carcinogenesis. Of these, thecancer suppresser gene P53 has been extensively studied.Aim of the study: to detect the association of the molecular markers Humanpapillomavirus -16, in the oral Squamous cell carcinoma using in situhybridization technique and To correlate Human papillomavirus -16 with clinicaldata (age, sex, risk factors grade &stage).Material & Methods: Tumor tissues from 33 patients with newly diagnosed as oralsquamous cell carcinoma & who were surgically treated collected, formalin fixed& paraffin embedded. Sections on charged slides were made from each tissueblock and submitted to in situ hybridization technique utilizing Humanpapillomavirus -16, cDNA probe.Results: Human papillomavirus -16 was localized by in situ hybridizationspecifically within the nuclei of cancer cell it was detected in (27) (81.8%) of 33oral squamous cell carcinoma patients. Most of Human papillomavirus -16positive patients were within the age group (50-59) years. However, there was nosignificant correlation between Human papillomavirus -16 positive &age. Nosignificant correlation was found to sex &risk factors (smoking &alcoholconsumption) either. Most of cases were moderately differentiated squamous cellcarcinoma (79%). however no significant correlation was detected regardinghistopathological grading or clinical staging with Human papillomavirus -16.Conclusions: Oral HPV-16 infections are strongly associated with OSCC. Amongsubject with or without the established risk factor of tobacco& alcohol use

Effect of Thermo-Mechanical Aging on The Marginal Fit of Two Types of Monolithic Zirconia Crowns With Two Finish Line Designs

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to compare the marginal fit of two CAD/CAM monolithic zirconia crowns with two finish line designs after thermomechanical aging. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 20 zirconia crowns were divided into two groups Bruxzir and Prettau zirconia (n=10). Each type of zirconia crowns was divided into two groups according to the finish line design chisel (CH) and deep chamfer (DC) groups (n=5) After cementation of crowns to their corresponding dies, the vertical marginal gap was measured then the all crowns of both groups were subjected to thermo-mechanical aging then the vertical marginal gap was measured again. RESULTS: Statistical analysis showed that. The thermo-mechanical aging significantly increased the vertical marginal gap where DC non-aged Bruxzir recording the lowest mean value (31.41±5.9) and the CH aged Bruxzir recorded the highest mean value (95.28±9.2) as indicated by three-way ANOVA test (F= 23.0741, p=<0.0001<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Thermo-mechanical aging significantly increased the vertical Marginal gap and the deep chamfer finish line preparation is preferred for construction of monolithic zirconia crowns.
