Leachate is a liquid generated by mixing of water with organic and inorganic material found in landfills. This liquid accumulates at the bottom of the landfill and has the potential to percolate through the soil to enter groundwater or other water bodies. Leachate contains various contaminants and toxins that can significantly diminish the quality of water it enters, which can become hazardous to humans and the environment. In this article, the water quality of two towns: Egg Harbor and Middle Township, New Jersey were analyzed and compared. Egg Harbor Township has a landfill located within the town, while the closest landfill to Middle Township is approximately 10 miles away. Water supply for both towns comes from the same aquifer, known as the Kirkwood-Cohansey water table system. The water quality results from community wells within Egg Harbor Township were compared to those of Middle Township. Water quality data for this study is from New Jersey American Water database. Based on the results, the water quality of Egg Harbor Township varies significantly from Middle Township. The levels of contaminants in Egg Harbor Township are much higher compared to Middle Township. Therefore, it can be concluded that communities near landfills, even well monitored and managed ones, are prone to have poorer water quality than those farther away from the landfill.

ResumenLa vitamina D, calcio y fósforo son nutrientes esenciales necesarios para una mineralización ósea, inmuno-modulación y reproducción eficiente. La vitamina D se sintetiza en el organismo tras la exposición a la luz solar, además puede ser aportado a través de la dieta en sus formas D2 y D3. En los últimos años se ha utilizado la forma 25-OH-D3 en la alimentación animal con mejores resultados que la forma D3 debido a su mayor biodisponibilidad. Su deficiencia produce alteraciones en el desarrollo del sistema óseo conocido como raquitismo y osteomalacia en cerdos jóvenes y adultos, respectivamente. Existe un gran avance en el conocimiento de los requerimientos nutricionales de vitamina D, calcio y fósforo para la especie porcina, razón por la cual se han publicado varios artículos de investigación, revisión y guías nutricionales. Dentro de estas últimas destacan NRC, NSNG, Tablas Brasileñas, FEDNA y otras desarrolladas por la industria proveedora de aditivos y genética porcina de reconocido prestigio mundial. Los valores sugeridos varían entre las diferentes fuentes de información relacionadas en gran parte a las condiciones en las cuales fueron desarrolladas (experimentales, comerciales o tipo campo). Sin embargo, es el nutricionista quien debe estar en la capacidad de adaptar estos valores a sus condiciones y objetivos de producción. El propósito de este manuscrito es presentar de manera resumida las recomendaciones nutricionales de vitamina D, calcio y fósforo proporcionando un contenido valioso para el nutricionista dedicado a la alimentación y formulación de dietas para cerdos. Vitamin D is synthesized in the body after exposure to sunlight, and it can also be provided through the diet in its D2 and D3 forms. Municipal solid waste (MSW) disposal is a rapidly expanding sector that caters to the rising demand for disposal facilities; as a result, MSW treatment is becoming a signi cant challenge in concern to environmental and public health. The by-products of solid waste dumped in land lls have negative consequences on the environment and people living near disposal sites. This research aimed to assess whether the disposal of garbage in land lls affected the people who live near them. Consequently, residents living near MSW disposal facilities are exposed to various risks. A systematic questionnaire was devised and disseminated in this research to examine the adjacent people's concerns and attitudes around the land ll of the rapidly expanding Siliguri city of West Bengal. It was accomplished by assessing the opinions of persons living within the 1000m of the land ll site and how it impacts their life. The novelty of the research includes geographical analysis of physical impressions, including odour nuisance, breathing problems, impacts of ies and mosquitoes, water contamination, issues due to illegal burning, and health-related problems, which was conducted using geographic information system methodologies. Besides, the Land ll satisfaction index (LSI) tool was used to assess the perception of the people residing near the land ll. Also, to statistically validate the perception of the people related to the impact of land lls on their life, gamma coe cient (y) test of Goodman-Kruskal was applied. The ndings reveal that the majority of the respondent within 600m are more susceptible to various risks due to unscienti c land ll. Subsequently, a large portion of the responding sample was aware of the detrimental effects of land lls on the health and environment, therefore, individuals living near the dump yard preferred to live farther away. The ndings also reveal that geographical proximity has a clear relationship between respondent perception and distance to the land ll. The study concludes with a discussion on how the research results may be bene cial for designing land ll sites and can be utilized by urban planners, environmentalists, and engineers.
