A Research Programme on Urban Dynamics

Abstract

Over the last three decades, the research group on regional and urban economics at the Politecnico di Milano has carried out studies on theoretical and empirical issues concerning the structure, competitiveness and growth of cities. A broad critical synthesis of this line of research is presented in Camagni et al. (Urban Empire, Edward Elgar, Cheltenham, 2019). In what follows, we focus on two crucial issues that the group has tackled, i.e. optimal city size theory and the empirics of central place theory. Although other issues, like self-organization dynamic models and the concept of city networks, have been elaborated by the group, they are not discussed in this paper.

Contribuciones de la Gestión Ambiental Urbana a la Conservación de los Valores del Patrimonio Construido

“…Hoy la gestión patrimonial prioriza los significados, valores culturales, identitarios y simbólicos de los valores del patrimonio construido, y aunque el dialogo con la gestión urbana es materializado desde la Confrontación de Bolonia por la Unesco, en 1974, esta no alcanza los niveles de conservación adecuados, porque los instrumentos que utilizan adolecen de una visión sistémica ambiental que enmarcan y hacen crecer las aglomeraciones urbanas sin una garantía de recursos de cualquier tipo que las sostengan. Hoy es una limitación la estructuración del sistema de asentamientos humanos y su tamaño óptimo, (Camagni et al, 2020), que contribuye a que la conservación patrimonial como generalidad no tenga un enfoque estratégico, con una prevalencia hacia la expansión urbana y los nuevos desarrollos urbanos.…”
