A Research Platform for Autonomous Vehicles Technologies Research in the Insurance Sector

Abstract: This work presents a novel platform for autonomous vehicle technologies research for the insurance sector. The platform has been collaboratively developed by the insurance company MAPFRE-CESVIMAP, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and INSIA of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. The high-level architecture and several autonomous vehicle technologies developed using the framework of this collaboration are introduced and described in this work. Computer vision technologies for environment perception, V2X commu… Show more

“…Subsequently, path planning exploits the output of the previous two tasks in order to adopt the optimal and safest feasible route for the RIRS to reach its destination while considering all other possible obstacles on the way [18]. Lastly, based on the selected path, the control element outputs the necessary values of acceleration, torque, braking and steering angle for the vehicle to follow the selected path [19]. ROS is used in order to make these elements work together and build a real autonomous system.…”

“…Consequently, CESVIMAP has embarked on the participation in several projects, from the ATLAS research platform for the evaluation of autonomous vehicles' sensors and software [30], to its participation in the development of autonomous bus-type vehicles for tourist routes in cities [31], or the pilot testing of a food delivery company that uses small autonomous robots.…”

“…To reach this level of automation and, to transform a commercial car into an intelligent platform, several years of research and development have been necessary since 2018. Although it is true that, throughout these years, the continuous advances and the evolution of technology have led to the introduction of new systems and components in the vehicle, most of the characteristics and developments of the vehicle are included in the work [17]. While a brief description of the current state of the vehicle will be provided below, [17] offers an in-depth explanation of aspects of the platform that are not covered in this section.…”
