A research on preferences of planting design elements, principles and approaches in landscape design applications

Show more

“…If a hospital has a well-designed garden along with the health care, it enables people to relax by emphasizing the colors of life and directing people’s thoughts to a different side (Aksu & Demirel, 2012; Karakaya & Kiper, 2011). Plants are one of the most important elements that constitute the support system of natural life in the design of urban open-green spaces and create indispensable living spaces for people (Çelik, 2020; Dirik et al, 2014; Sarı & Karaşah, 2018).…”

“…This could possibly be due to the fact that most of the wild species are rarely domesticated. Landscape planting plays an important role in urban and public open spaces [22], and one of the elements targeted in landscape design is to establish a balanced interaction between humans and nature and to reflect the natural environment in urban environments. Another element is to create an aesthetic, functional, and ecologically sustainable landscape.…”

“…Plants provide many benefits such as reducing air pollution, regulating micro-climate, providing habitat for wild animals, carbon sequestration, energy saving, reducing noise, erosion control, making positive contributions to urban aesthetics, and creating space (Önder & Akbulut, 2011;Sakıcı, Karakaş & Kesimoğlu, 2013;Yılmaz, Düzenli & Dinçer, 2017;Düzenli, Yılmaz & Tarakçı Eren, 2018;Eren, 2019;Gülçin & Van Den Bosch, 2021;Karaşah, 2021). However, despite all these benefits, it was seen that many plant species used in open and green spaces designed today are mostly chosen by keeping their form, color, and aesthetic features in the foreground (Bayramoğlu & Şatıroğlu, 2018;Sarı & Karaşah, 2018). The aim of planting design should be to create aesthetic and functional uses for users.…”
