Objectives: To present a case of non-infectious platinum eyelid weight rejection, the first reported case in otolaryngology literature. Methods: A case of a non-infectious tissue reaction to a platinum eyelid weight was identified. Results: A platinum eyelid weight was placed in a 72-year-old female for paralytic lagophthalmos. The patient presented with persistent edema and skin discoloration on post-operative day 8, though no drainage, tenderness, or other signs of infection were present. The weight was eventually explanted with rapid resolution of symptoms. Pathology demonstrated granulomatous inflammation with histiocytosis and foreign-body giant cells, consistent with tissue reaction to the platinum weight. Conclusions: Platinum eyelid weights are commonly used to treat paralytic lagophthalmos. While non-infectious tissue reactions to platinum are less common than with gold weights, they are still possible and should be treated with weight removal.

Purpose: To describe a new technique of suturing sclerotomy after 23- gauge pars plana vitrectomy using10 – 0 nylon suture with releasable knot. Study Design: Quasi experimental study. Place and Duration of Study: Sahiwal Teaching Hospital, Sahiwal, from January 2022 to June 2022. Methods: 10 – 0 nylon sutures with releasable knots were applied to close the sclerotomy after 23 – gauge pars plana vitrectomy in 100 cases. Complications like hypotony and wound leakage were recorded. Intra ocular pressures on 1st post-operative day and after 1 week were monitored. Inflammation at suture site, pain experienced by the patient and surgeon’s convenience of suture removal under a slit lamp after 1 week were documented. Results: Patients included 58 women and 42 men. Post-operatively, there was no wound leakage and hypotony in any patient, with mean intra ocular pressure of 13.5 ± 2.0 mmHg on 1st post-operative day and 17.6 ± .0.5 mmHg after 1 week of surgery. In 4% cases inflammation was observed at suture site. The mean pain score, measured according to visual analogue scale, at post-operative day 1 and day 7 was 1.25 ± 1.19 and 1.08 ± 0.99 respectively. No discomfort was reported during removal of releasable sutures in 96% of the patients. Surgeon found it convenient to remove the sutures under slit lamp illumination. Conclusion: Closure of 23 – gauge sclerotomy using nylon 10 – 0 suture with releasable knot is a useful option. It prevents post-operative wound leakage and hypotony.

Nylon is a human‐made material and has been applied in many industrial fields. This literature review explores the use of nylon in biomedical applications and discusses the properties and three‐dimensional (3D) printability of this material. Nylon is studied due to its versatility as an engineering plastic that can be easily transformed into fibers, films, and molded parts. Due to nylon's biocompatible nature, it has desirable chemical stability and tunable mechanical properties making this material and its derivatives widely used as sutures, catheters, dentures, and so on. However, the interactions between nylon and human body tissues have yet to be fully understood. Nevertheless, nylon is hybridized with different materials and used as skin dressings. In recent years, nylon composites have been actively researched in tissue engineering as an alternative to metallic implants with an appropriate bioactivity potential for bone growth. As nylon is supposed to be in contact with the tissue for a long time, hence researchers are developing antimicrobial strategies for the nylon materials to even promote their potential a step further. The 3D printing of nylon is currently confined to specific applications due to the printing technology's current limitations.
