A recently-developed personal computer program for applying capacitors and regulators to radial distribution feeders takes some new approaches. Several key design issues concerning the software design, analysis methods, and database are discussed. Object-oriented software design techniques were used to achieve an exceptional user interface and flexible modelin capability. This approach makes it easier to achieve goals of modeling arbitrarily complex circuit elements and having the capability of changing those models at any time in the future without disturbing the rest of the program. The pro ram is designed around a comprehensive database capa%le of supporting many different power system analysis programs.
