“…Mouse models of allergic airway inflammation have also delineated the important immunoregulatory role played by IL‐10‐producing Bregs. It has been demonstrated by adoptive transfer experiments that CD9 + B cells were able to suppress Th2 and Th17‐mediated airway inflammation by mechanisms dependent on IL‐10 . TGF‐β‐producing B cells may also contribute to allergen tolerance as demonstrated in mouse models of allergic airway inflammation.…”

“…Further, B-cells produce IgG4 antibodies, which bind to the allergens without initiating a reaction, thus acting as “blocking antibodies” (20). In a recent study, the authors showed that Bregs were less prevalent in lungs of mice after allergen exposure confirming that the development of asthma alters the homeostasis of IL-10+ regulatory B cells, emphasize the importance of B cells in asthma, not only as IgE producers but also as suppressive cells able to constrain the pathological process (21). Additionally, Tregs cells suppress allergic responses directly and indirectly.…”

“…Deeper analysis of the Breg phenotype has revealed that CD9 is a specific marker for Breg cells in mice and humans [30,31]. In humans, the expression of CD9 is increased dramatically at the surface of CD24 hi CD38…”

“…Recently, Braza et al [30] showed that this new regulatory B-cell subset, CD9 + Breg cells, inhibits house dust mite-induced allergic airway inflammation. Initially, the authors showed that the induction of allergic asthma alters the homeostasis of IL-10 + Breg cells, thus increasing production of inflammatory cytokines by B cells.…”
