A reduced representation of 2×25 kV electrical systems for high-speed railways

Abstract: This paper presents a reduced model of 2x25 kV electrical systems for high speed railways. The structure of both the proposed reduced model and the 1x25 kV system are similar. This reduced model has been developed to be included in an design optimization program of high-speed railways power supply systems. The accuracy of the reduced model is checked with a detailed model of power supply system of high speed-railways.

“…That technology is called AT (auto transformer) for AC railways. AT catenary systems (Hill, 1994;Bülund et al, 2004;Pilo et al, 2003;Glover et al, 1984) are sometimes also called dual systems or 2·V L kV systems (where V L denotes the voltage level) (Pilo et al, 2003). There also exist powerelectronics based solutions with dual voltage contact line systems for DC railways (Ladoux et al, 2006).…”

“…This fact reduces the current needed to supply the power required by highspeed trains [1]. In consequence, the length of the sections can be greater and the number of TS lower.…”

“…Typical values for cell lengths are 10-15 km. It has been proven that bi-voltage systems can be represented as if they were mo-voltage [5,6]. For that reason, in this paper only mono-voltage systems are considered in the discussions, without loss of generality.…”
