A reduced chemical kinetic mechanism of diesel fuel for HCCI engines

Abstract: A reduced mechanism of diesel fuel was developed on the basis of Wang’s mechanism. First, for removing the unimportant reactions, an importance index was defined on the basis of computational singular perturbation (CSP). Choosing the importance index of 0.0065, the 140 unimportant reactions were removed, and obtained a smaller mechanism of 403 elementary reactions. Second, 32 global quasi-steady-state (QSS) species were found with the threshold value of 0.005. Finally, the smallest mechanism containing 77-spec… Show more

“…However, the implementation of these schemes in CFD software is not straightforward as discussed in . Computational singular perturbation (CSP), intrinsic low-dimensional manifold methods (IDLM), , repro modeling, rate-controlled constrained equilibrium (RCCE), flame-generated manifolds method (FGM), Roussel and Fraser algorithm (RF), and S-step algorithm are the main algorithms developed during the last decades to achieve reduced versions of the detailed mechanisms. Generally, in these algorithms, one may select a number of species and steps and reduce them to an acceptable level of lower accuracy.…”

“…The high compression ratios required to autoignite the mixture can result in efficiency comparable to CI engines, assuming that the indirectly controlled ignition begins at the appropriate moment. HCCI engines provide fuel flexibility because they can run on some fuels including gasoline, 1 diesel, 2 and alternate fuels 3 . Although HCCI engines have many of the beneficial qualities of SI and CI engines, they add the challenging jobs of managing the start of combustion (SOC) and possess a restricted load spectrum that cannot meet the heavy load demands necessary for automobiles 4 .…”
