In this article, we propose a liquid‐metal‐fluidically polarization reconfigurable microstrip patch antenna. The edge‐truncated patch is designed to generate circular polarization (CP), and two microfluidic channels are designed for the polarization reconfigurability. Therefore, the polarization of the proposed antenna is switched to linear polarization (LP) from the CP when the liquid metal is injected on the microfluidic channels. The microfluidic channels are fabricated on the polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) material, and eutectic gallium‐indium (EGaIn) is used as the liquid metal. The performance of the proposed antenna is numerically and experimentally demonstrated. The measured 10‐dB impedance bandwidth is 1.579‐1.619 GHz and 1.563‐1.587 GHz for the CP and LP modes, respectively. At the CP mode, the measured axial ratio (AR) and RHCP gain at 1.595 GHz are 2.267 dB and 6.59 dBic, respectively. At the LP mode, the measured AR and peak gain at 1.585 GHz are 12.335 dB and 5.18 dBi, respectively.

A coplanar waveguide fed polarization reconfigurable monopole antenna is proposed in this letter. The proposed antenna consists of L‐shaped stubs placed on either side of a monopole, two p‐i‐n diodes and a slot in the ground plane. In the proposed antenna structure, the switching element is not directly connected to the feed line. Depending on the switching state of the p‐i‐n diodes, the antenna either radiates left/right circular polarization or linear polarization. To validate the proposed design, the antenna was fabricated and its performance was measured. Since the ground plane is electrically small, the effect of the cable and SMA connector on the performance of the antenna is also investigated. The measured impedance bandwidth is 66.78% (3.67 GHz to 7.35 GHz) and the axial ratio bandwidth is 13.62% (4.24‐4.86 GHz) for circular polarization and 23.61% (3.81‐4.83 GHz) impedance bandwidth for linear polarization.

In this article, a reconfigurable antenna with quad-polarization radiations is proposed based on a switchable feeding network. A wideband quad-mode feeding network is first designed by integrating a simple impedance converter with a modified hybrid coupler. By switching the p-i-n diodes, four-transmission status with specific amplitudes and phase differences at feeding output ports can be obtained over a wide frequency range, hence enhancing the radiating bandwidth of two linear and two circular polarizations. Finally, a prototype of the proposed quad-polarization-agile reconfigurable antenna is designed and fabricated. The measured results show a wide overlapped bandwidth of 782 to 1010 MHz (25.4%) for all four polarizations with a competitive size and gain performance.
