A Real-Time Clinical Decision Support System, for Mild Cognitive Impairment Detection, Based on a Hybrid Neural Architecture

Abstract: Clinical procedure for mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is mainly based on clinical records and short cognitive tests. However, low suspicion and difficulties in understanding test cut-offs make diagnostic accuracy being low, particularly in primary care. Artificial neural networks (ANNs) are suitable to design computed aided diagnostic systems because of their features of generating relationships between variables and their learning capability. The main aim pursued in that work is to explore the ability of a h… Show more

“…Neuropsychological tests (some subscales of MMSE and its total score, a subtest of ADAS, and a subscale of FAQ) and a demographic data (patient’s age) as input yielded high AUC scores. Some of these authors deepened in their previous works with CPNs and tested this neural network even more [ 118 ]. A similarly high performance was achieved with different scales and demographic data: the total scores of FAQ, MMSE, and GDS, age and years of education.…”

“…In 22 studies of this ICD-10 classifications addressing six health conditions [28,45,[89][90][91][92][93][94][95][96][97]119,81,120,121,[82][83][84][85][86][87][88], the involved population were from eight countries, mainly the US and the UK (n=14). These studies were published since 2013 with the highest number of studies in 2020 (44.4%).…”

“…Some studies have found that AMD and AD are not only common in epidemiology, but also common in molecular aspects ( 19 ). For example, the characteristic senile plaque of AD and the marker drusen of AMD have common active ingredients, the most important of which is Aβ, both of which contain and ( 20 ).…”
