[Purpose] To verify, using Rasch analysis, the applicability of the 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) to elderly Koreans, as this instrument would be useful for determining elderly individuals’ overall performance and providing them with health information. [Subjects and Methods] The SF-36 was administered to a sample of 510 individuals aged over 60 living in the Seoul and Gyeonggi areas of South Korea. When testing for goodness-of-fit, we considered items with infit and outfit indexes of over 1.30 or less than 0.70 to be incongruent. SF-36 factors that contained over three items, including physical functioning, role limitations (physical and emotional), mental health, vitality, and general health, were analyzed. Each factor was examined through step calibration of the response categories in the probability curve. [Results] The response categories were found to be appropriate because the adjustment values of each factor increased. We found five items in physical functioning, two items in role limitation–emotion, one item in mental health, and one item in general health to be incongruent; all items in the role limitation–physical and vitality factors were congruent. [Conclusion] We conclude that the SF-36 could be revised to more accurately measure the health status of elderly Koreans.

Resumo A Tecnologia da Informação (TI) tornou-se fundamental na prestação de serviços de cuidado à saúde, abrangendo a pluralidade dos aspectos que envolvem a área. Isso faz com que a TI possa oferecer significativa contribuição ao desempenho das organizações de saúde. Há uma lacuna do conhecimento sobre como realizar e implementar melhorias nessas tecnologias, que como um dos motivos, cita-se a carência de estudos com o tema de Avaliação de Desempenho de Tecnologia da Informação na saúde. O objetivo deste trabalho é contribuir na disseminação do conhecimento sobre o assunto, através da realização de uma revisão sistemática com o emprego do “Knowledge Development Process – Constructivist (Proknow-C)”. Através da análise de métricas de produção, observou-se de que forma os estudos integrantes do Portfólio Bibliográfico da pesquisa representam a área do conhecimento investigada, e a partir de uma análise sistemática do conteúdo dessas publicações foi possível indicar as lacunas do conhecimento ainda existentes na área. Como limitação do estudo destaca-se a característica construtivista do “Proknow-C” e, nas sugestões para futuras pesquisas, recomenda-se o preenchimento das lacunas de conhecimento observadas, oriundas da análise realizada.

Objective: Health information technology (HIT) in rural settings has considerable potential to address rural health needs such as cost, access, and efficiency. This study contrasts the use of technology by Idaho rural physicians to identify differences in technology usage over time. The study includes information on technology factors such as internet databases, internet journals, e-publications, teleconferencing, electronic health records (EHRs) for patient care, and electronic physician education materials. Methods: Surveys focused on the broad experience of practicing rural medicine were administered to rural physicians in Idaho who practiced in counties containing less than 50,000 people. Identical surveys were sent out in 2007 and again in 2012. Results: Out of the 248 rural physicians who were successfully mailed the survey in 2007, responses were obtained from 92 for a response rate of 37.1%. In 2012, the response rate was 35.3% (89/252). Descriptive and inferential analyses were conducted in order to monitor and compare technology usage over time in the rural medicine workforce environment. Conclusions: Comparative results across time periods indicated a significant increase in overall technology utilization by rural physicians. In addition, there was a trend of decreasing the disparities in technology utilization between gender, age, and employment groups. Among all groups of physicians in both 2007 and 2012, the highest technology usage was of internet databases, journals and e-publications.
