A rare cause of glans penis masses in childhood: Fibroepithelial polyp

Abstract: Fibroepithelial polyps of glans penis are very rarely seen in childhood. A 6-month-old male admitted to our institution with a slowly enlarging glans penis mass on the ventral side of the glans penis. The mass was totally excised, and hystopathological diagnosis was a fibroepithelial polyp. All of the reported cases published previously, except one, are of adult age and all of them have been associated with the history of long-term condom catheter use. “…Today, monopolar and bipolar electrocauters are widely used for homeostasis in the circumcision procedure. Although no superiority could be found among electrocauters in the studies performed, it was reported that bipolar cauters can be preferred in penile surgery because they are low-energy devices (12).…”

“…Although the circumcision has many complications, such as infection, hematoma, incomplete excision of the foreskin, suture reaction, stenosis of the external urethral meatus, urethral fistula, extreme excision of the penile skin, and skin bridge adhesion to glans, the most common complication is hemorrhage and the most serious complication is glans amputation. In addition, strict bandage after circumcision may lead to penile gangrene in rare cases (12). It was reported in literature that some patients succumbed to death after severe bleeding and necrotizing fasciitis (20,21).…”

They occur mostly on the skin and are rarely originated from the urogenital system (renal pelvis, proximal urethra, bladder, and vagina) 2 . Fibroepithelial polyps localized on the glans penis are very rare and even more so in childhood 1,2,3,4,5,6 …”
