A rare case of traumatic rupture of gluteus medius and literature review

Abstract

Introduction The understanding of hip abductor tendon tears remains in its infancy.Case We present a unique case of complete, traumatic rupture of the gluteus medius tendon and a literature review. Discussion Whilst our case is unique, gluteal tendon tears and tendinopathy are probably much more common than originally thought. Conclusion We encourage clinicians to consider it amongst their differential diagnoses of hip pain, especially in conjunction with trochanteric bursitis.
