A Rapid One-Pot Synthesis of Novel High-Purity Methacrylic Phosphonic Acid (PA)-Based Polyhedral Oligomeric Silsesquioxane (POSS) Frameworks via Thiol-Ene Click Reaction

Abstract: Herein, we demonstrate a facile methodology to synthesis a novel methacrylic phosphonic acid (PA)-functionalized polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSSs) via thiol-ene click reaction using octamercapto thiol-POSS and ethylene glycol methacrylate phosphate (EGMP) monomer. The presence of phosphonic acid moieties and POSS-cage structure in POSS-S-PA was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and nuclear magnetic resonance ( 1 H, 29 Si and 31 P-NMR) analyses. Matrix-assisted laser desorption ionizat… Show more

“…It is possible that, during thermal treatment, i Bu 7 SSQ-3OH undergoes condensation to products of higher molecular weight than the ones presented, however those would exceed m/z ratio limit available for the instrument used. More findings in the subject of MALDI-TOF-MS analysis of silsesquioxanes and silsesquioxane-derived materials may be found in some recent scientific reports [ 62 , 63 , 64 ].…”

“…The POSS–SH was prepared through the acid hydrolysis reaction of MPTS according to the previous reports. , Briefly, 15 mL of MPTS, 330 mL of methanol, and 30 mL of hydrochloric acid were mixed in a sealed 500 mL three-necked flask fitted with a water-cooled condenser. After the reaction mixture was refluxed at 90 °C for 24 h under vigorous stirring, the white viscous precipitate was obtained by removing the solvent under reduced pressure, washed with cold methanol three times, and then dissolved in CH 2 Cl 2 .…”

“…27 The occurrence of initial degradation at below 200 °C was corresponding to the removal of adsorbed moisture and residual solvent, and the continuous weight loss occurred until 400 °C, corresponding to the simultaneous degradation of the polymer network and POSS. 37 The following carbonization process tended to be stable at 800 °C. Obviously, the thermal stability of the nanocomposite was enhanced by the incorporation of POSS−SH because of the increased cross-linking density and higher thermal stability of inorganic POSS cages.…”

“…), the hydrolysis of which leads to crosslinked silsesquioxane polymers, often serve as precursors of the silica modifier of ion-exchange membranes [10,[22][23][24][25][26][27][28]. Composite membranes containing polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes can be used for proton transport at high temperatures and low humidity [29,30].…”
