“…However, these studies were conducted using Western populations, whereas we studied older community-dwelling Japanese subjects, who, in general, have lower milk product intake in their daily life than that of the Western population. For example, milk and milk product intake in Japan is reported to be ~60 kcal/day in middle-aged men [14] and ~150 kcal/day in adolescent females [47], which is similar to the values reported in the present study (Table 4) but is only one-fourth to one-third of those in US and European populations [4850].
