A Randomized Controlled Trial of Attentional Control Training for Treating Alcohol Use Disorder

Abstract: Background: There is consistent evidence that community and clinical samples of individuals with an alcohol use disorder (AUD) have attentional biases toward alcohol cues. The alcohol attentional control training program (AACTP) has shown promise for retraining these biases and decreasing alcohol consumption in community samples of excessive drinkers. However, there is a lack of evidence regarding the effectiveness of ACTP in clinical AUD samples. The main aim of the present study is to investigate whether pri… Show more

“…Cognitive bias modification apps are a rapidly emerging field. Recently published or registered protocols include a large RCT of mHealth attentional bias modification [17], a double-blind RCT of ApBM ‘AAT-App’ for treatment-seekers with AUD [18] and a pilot RCT of ApBM with older adults in the community [19]. A pilot RCT is also underway testing ‘Brain+ AlcoRecover’ [20], a multidomain cognitive training app for AUD treatment-seekers.…”
