A randomized controlled trial of ProRoot MTA, OrthoMTA and RetroMTA for pulpotomy in primary molars

Abstract: The success rates of RetroMTA, OrthoMTA and ProRoot MTA are indistinguishable, indicating that pulpotomy can be carried out successfully in primary molars with the newly developed materials.

“…Although we cannot provide a rational explanation on the origin of the pulp disorganization in our work, which may be caused by interspecies differences, the discontinuous mineralization may not be sufficient to provide the marginal sealing of the pulp under the definitive restorative material. When RetroMTA was evaluated in a clinical trial in primary teeth pulpotomy, radiographic and clinical success similar to that obtained with ProRoot MTA was reported (4). The absence of inflammation after 8 weeks in our investigation may explain the observed absence of radiographic and clinical signs in this clinical trial.…”

“…A single clinical trial was performed with RetroMTA in 3to 10-year-old children undergoing primary teeth pulpotomy. After 12 months, the clinical and radiographic results with RetroMTA were similar to those of MTA, indicating a very high success rate (4).…”

“…Biodentine and MTA resulted in the highest volumes after the cone beam radiography. According to Kang et al, 28 RetroMTA, Ortho MTA, and ProRoot MTA success rates did not differ and are indistinguishable, and these results indicate that pulpotomy could be performed with a high success rate with all the evaluated biomaterials. Bonte et al 29 showed how there is no statistical difference between Ca (OH) 2 and MTA, but MTA produced a better dentin healing, apexification using MTA could give better results than Ca (OH) 2 .…”

“…Pratima et al 2018 [20] Pulpotomy was performed by diode laser prior to MTA. Kang et al 2015 [21] Authors compared the same pulpotomy dressing material. Akcay et al 2014 [22] Sodium hypochlorite was applied prior to MTA and might act as a variable.…”
