Objective To evaluate the effect of online follow-up on the quality of life of patients who undergo extraction of impacted mandibular third molars. Materials and methods This study enrolled patients with impacted mandibular third molars who were treated at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of the Stomatological Hospital at Southern Medical University and divided them into test and control groups. The test group received an online follow-up on the first, third, and fifth days after tooth extraction, while the control group was not followed up with. Patients in both groups were reexamined on the postoperative seventh day, completing the postoperative symptom severity (PoSSe) scale to comprehensively and quantitatively evaluate their quality of life after tooth extraction. A visual analogue scale (VAS) was used to evaluate the degree of approval for an online follow-up after tooth extraction by 20 senior doctors (≥ 40 years old) and 20 young doctors (<4 0 years old). Results The PoSSe scale scores of the remaining options in the test group were significantly lower than those in the control group. The VAS score of senior doctors for online follow-up was significantly lower than that of young doctors. Conclusions A postoperative online follow-up effectively improved the quality of life of patients who underwent extraction of impacted mandibular third molars. Compared with senior doctors, young doctors were more likely to approve an online followup after tooth extraction. Clinical relevance Online medical care can be considered as an auxiliary tool to improve the effect of oral treatment.

Objectives: the aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of audio or audiovisual distraction with and without noise cancellation on the anxiety levels of patients undergoing routine dental procedures. Material and Methods:A minimum random sample of 120 patients was selected on the basis of inclusion and exclusion criteria primarily pertaining to age (17-70 years), health (American Society of Anesthesiologists performance status I or II), and type of dental treatment (basic restorative procedures for class I, II, III, IV, and/or V lesions). The participants were divided into four main groups depending on the type of anxiety control method used during the dental procedure: control, audio distraction, audiovisual distraction, and noise cancellation. Different subgroups were created within each group on the basis of different method combinations. Anxiety levels were assessed by measuring the blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen saturation levels before and after treatment. In addition, the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and Modified Dental Anxiety Scale (DAS) were also used to determine the effects of the anxiety control methods.Results: Both audio distraction and audiovisual distraction significantly improved the STAI and DAS scores, regardless of the use of noise cancellation. Anxiety levels were significantly higher in the noise cancellation and control groups than in the audio distraction and audiovisual distraction groups. Conclusion:Our findings suggest that audio and audiovisual distraction methods are effective in minimizing fear and anxiety during routine dental procedures in adult patients.

Öz Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the level of anxiety of patients undergoing elective Caesarean section under spinal anesthesia to ascertain the factors related to anxiety and the effect of calming conversation on the anxiety level. Materials and Methods: The study included a total of 156 patients as Group 1 (96) and Group 2 (60). The patients in Group 1 were distracted with calming conversationting during the surgery and in Group 2, the patient's questions were answered but the surgical team did not calming conversation. All patients completed the the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) questionnaire preoperatively and postoperatively. Results: The preoperative STAI scores were similar in both groups. Although midazolam administration was higher in Group 2, the postoperative STAI scores were significantly lower in Group 1. In both groups, the anxiety scores decreased significantly in the postoperative period. Smoking was found to be related with higher STAI scores. Nausea was related with higher preoperative and postoperative STAI scores. Patients who were employed related lower STAI scores. Conclusion: Calming conversationting with patients, which is easy, has no cost and does not harm the infant or mother, decreased the STAI scores better than midazolam. Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı spinal anestezi altında elektif sezaryen uygulanan hastaların anksiyete düzeylerini, anksiyete ile ilişkili faktörleri ve hastayla sakinleştirici konuşmanın kaygı düzeyi üzerine olan etkisini belirlemektir. Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışma, Grup 1 (96) ve Grup 2 (60) olmak üzere toplam 156 hasta içermektedir. Grup 1'de cerrahi sırasında hastalara ile sakinleştirici konuşma yapılarak dikkatleri dağıtıldı, Grup 2'de ise hastanın sadece soruları olduğunda yanıtlandı ancak cerrahi ekip hasta ile sohbet etmedi. Tüm hastalardan preoperatif ve postoperatif dönemde durumluk-sürekli kaygı envanteri (STAI) anketini doldurması istendi. Bulgular: Preoperatif STAI skorları her iki grupta da benzerdi. Grup 2'de midazolam verdiğimiz hasta sayısı daha yüksek olmasına rağmen postoperatif STAI skorları Grup 1'de anlamlı olarak daha düşüktü. Postoperatif dönemde anksiyete skorları her iki grupta da anlamlı olarak azaldı. Sigara içenlerde STAI skoru daha yüksek bulundu. Bulantı, preoperatif ve postoperatif yüksek STAI skorları ile ilişkiliydi. Rejyonel anestezi korkusu ve bebek sağlığı ile ilgili kaygı belirtenlerde STAI skoru daha yüksek ve bir işte çalışanlarda ise STAI skoru daha düşük olarak gözlemlendi. Sonuç: Hastalarla sakinleştirici konuşmanın kolay, maliyeti olmayan, bebeğe veya anneye zarar vermeyen bir yöntem olup STAI puanlarını midazolamdan daha iyi düşürdüğünü gözlemledik.
