A Randomized Comparison of Radial-Artery and Saphenous-Vein Coronary Bypass Grafts

Abstract: Radial-artery grafts are associated with a lower rate of graft occlusion at one year than are saphenous-vein grafts. Because the patency of radial-artery grafts depends on the severity of native-vessel stenosis, such grafts should preferentially be used for target vessels with high-grade lesions.

“…The randomized and controlled trial by Dessai et al [29] published in 2004, compared the patency at 12 months of RA and SV grafts. Its methodology is reproducible and scientific with an adequate method of randomization, and a reasonable number of patients (n = 440).…”

“…Studies from Category D were excluded from this systematic review. Two studies were classified in Category A (Dessai et al, 2004; Buxton et al, 2003) [29,30] and one study was classified as Category B (Muneretto et al, 2004) [31].…”

“…The Radial Artery Patency Study (RAPS) investigators enrolled 561 patients in 13 centers [49]. In this trial, the RA graft was randomly assigned to bypass in either the right coronary territory or the circumflex coronary territory, with the SV graft used for the opposing territory, which had proximal lesions at least 70% of occlusion diameter narrowing.…”

“…Nors po 10 metų dar funkcionuoja 50-60 proc. veninių jungčių, tačiau tik pusė jų yra be aterosklerozinių pokyčių (23). Remiantis mūsų tyrimo duomenimis, galima teigti, kad 67,5 proc.…”
