“…Using a previously described technique, 5 mL of LA was injected in the intermuscular plane between the sternocleidomastoid and scalene muscles at the level of the thyroid cartilage. 7,8 In the ISB group, the US transducer was applied in a sterile fashion on the lateral side of the neck at the level of the cricoid cartilage in order to obtain a view of the 3 hypoechoic structures, which represent the roots/trunks of the brachial plexus. 9 A skin wheal was raised with 3 mL of lidocaine 1%.…”

“…In human medicine, ultrasound guidance is considered to reduce the risks of the procedure and to increase the operator's confidence and it is routinely used for a large number of technically difficult or risky procedures in anaesthesiology for CSF punctures, vessel cannulations, and nerve blocks . Impact and usefulness of ultrasound guidance has been compared to landmark techniques for different procedures in human medicine with positive or rather mixed results . In veterinary medicine, a direct ultrasound‐guided technique for lumbar puncture has been described in dogs .…”

“…[131415] Nerve stimulation techniques rely on the needle tip being directed towards the nerve itself and are particularly useful when a nerve is difficult to image sonographically. The ON is one such nerve that can be both, difficult to stimulate electrically and image sonographically.…”
