A quality control approach to better characterize the spatial distribution of snow depth over New Brunswick, Canada

Abstract: The aim of this work is to develop, from a high‐resolution climate analysis, a quality control standard methodology applied to manual snow cover (HS) series managed by the Snow Survey Database in New Brunswick (Canada). The database collected snow depth data biweekly starting at the end of January until the end of April. A 30‐year (1981–2010) analysis of 60 weather stations belonging to two independent meteorological networks was performed. A quality control of the climatic series was performed to evaluate the… Show more

“…To address such issues, sensitivity analyses of parallel time series are paramount and have been conducted for temperature and precipitation (Acquaotta et al, 2016;Gubler et al, 2017;Hunziker et al, 2017). For snow only few studies exist (e.g., Accquaotta et al, 2015;Baronetti et al, 2019) analysing parallel snow series. However, data from two different measurement techniques were used (manual and automatic), large distances (up to 20 km) were allowed within their station pairs and no impact on indicator series was investigated.…”

“…Quality‐control procedures are essential to detect outliers or changes in the snowfall series (Baronetti et al ., 2019). In order to study the yearly snowfall regime changes and assess climate anomalies at Parma observatory, the homogeneity of the snowfall time series has been investigated to identify breakpoints and the impact of the corrections.…”
