The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has affected countless businesses, leading to serious disruptions for many industries. Drawing on the resilience literature, this study offers an understanding of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the creative industries and their response to the challenges they have encountered. This study reviews 59 papers following the systematic literature review approach and reveals several positive implications of the COVID-19 pandemic within the creative industries (e.g., IT and software) as well as the negative (the music industry, festivals, cultural events). Identifying six themes related to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the creative industries, we develop a response matrix based on the discussion of firms’ digital capabilities and their ability to adapt to the COVID-19 crisis. We outline future research directions using a Theory-Context-Characteristics-Methodology (TCCM) framework.

Lim and To (2021) investigated the impact of COVID-19 on the gaming industry using ARIMA, correlation, and regression analyses on longitudinal data to explore the relationship between Macau's gross gaming revenue and tourist arrivals and demonstrated that the Macau gaming industry experienced an unprecedented drop due to the significant decrease of number of tourist arrivals.…”

This study measured the magnitude of Covid-19’s impact on the casino gaming industry in Macau, analyzed the current Asian gaming market, and provided an overview of the industry outlook in the post-Covid era. Using the Time Series analysis techniques, statistically significant decreases in all sections of the industry have been identified and quantified. In addition, quarterly gaming revenue for the future three years were forecasted. Based on current market conditions and the results of data analyses, this study suggests that: 1) a more diversified tourism and gaming service portfolio is needed; 2) collaborations with surrounding areas need to be established; 3) Macau’s gaming industry will need to explore new markets for future sustainable growth; 4) the rebound of Macau’s gaming industry in the near future will largely depend on China’s COVID policy.

Background The global impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has been profound. Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), renowned as an international hub for tourism and entertainment, has actively responded to the crisis. However, a comprehensive analysis detailing the evolution of Macao SAR’s policies throughout this period is currently lacking. Methods This study aims to comprehensively understand the decision-making processes, policy formulation, and implementation strategies of the Macao SAR government amidst the pandemic through the analysis of speeches and inquiries made by legislative council members and other relevant documents. Employing both quantitative and qualitative analytical methods, including word frequency analysis and word vector models, we identify key themes and patterns. Additionally, we conducted a comparative analysis of keyword frequencies during the two waves of the pandemic using radar charts. Results The results indicate a heightened focus by the Macao SAR government on pandemic control measures and economic impacts. In response, the government formulated and implemented policies, provided support initiatives, and managed port clearance, all while focusing on enhancing healthcare infrastructure and community services. Conclusions The government persistently amends its policies in response to the evolving challenges posed by the pandemic. The evolution of the dynamic Zero-COVID strategy highlights the government’s adaptability and comprehensive consideration, ensuring public health and societal stability.
