A prototype assembled 3D-printed phantom of the glenohumeral joint for fluoroscopic-guided shoulder arthrography

Abstract: 3D printing of a complex capsule, such as the glenohumeral joint, is possible with this technique. Such a model can serve as a valuable training tool.

“…The features of transparency and polychromatic color are conducive for researchers to understand the structure of the human body better. Some work simulates human bones and soft tissue directly with multiple materials. 3D printing sometimes takes a long time to accomplish real-time sampling. However, its advantage lies in the unattended printing process rather than the processing speed.…”

“…These characteristics include apparent density in Houns eld Units (HU), potential artifact generation, and ultrasonic transmission. In addition, many of these resins have biocompatible properties and are widely used throughout dentistry and medicine as implants, hardware, or as educational models (11)(12)(13)(14)(15). Access to data on the imaging traits of Formlabs SLA materials is essential for the creation of realistic phantom models which can aid in medical education and intervention planning, preparation, and execution.…”

“…Successful 3D models and devices should accurately characterize human tissue both anatomically and radiographically (3,5,(14)(15). Diagnostic and interventional radiologists have a unique role in the successful implementation of 3D printing into clinical practice, as the process of capturing and interpreting precise anatomical data is compatible with the daily work ow of these specialties.…”

“…Radiology is well-poised to integrate 3D printing within simulation training. Prototypes, ranging from the lumbar spine to complex vasculature [48][49][50][51], have successfully been printed and can be modified for simulation purposes. While the role of three-dimensional printing for trainee education has been documented in other procedural specialties, there is a lack of knowledge about the role of 3D printing for trainee education within IR.…”
