“…However, it’s worth noting that flush fluid and interval varied across studies which may be the sources of clinical heterogeneity. Of the included trials, eight 7,1720,22,24,25 performed flush procedures using normal saline followed by heparin, three trials 15,21,23 performed flush only by heparin, and two 26,27 trials performed flush only by normal saline. Although, the Infusion Therapy Standards of Practice (eighth edition, revised 2021) by the Infusion Nurses Society recommended that normal saline solution and heparin had the same locking effect.…”
