A prospective randomized double-blind trial of the efficacy of a bilateral lumbar erector spinae block on the 24h morphine consumption after posterior lumbar inter-body fusion surgery

Abstract: Background Spine surgery is associated with considerable postoperative pain and can be challenging to treat. A loco-regional technique suitable for spine surgery should cover the dorsal root of the spinal nerves at the levels where surgery is performed. The erector spinae block is a loco-regional technique with promising results and was recently described at the thoracic level. There are no randomized trials of this technique on a lumbar level. This study tests the hypothesis that the 24-h postope… Show more

“…Only one case report mentioned that ESPB could effectively reduce the use of analgesia and muscle relaxant drugs during the perioperative period of spondylolisthesis correction surgery, and appropriate hypotension was beneficial to surgical visual field exposure and operation. 37 Reducing the use of perioperative anesthetics cannot only reduce the cost of hospitalization, but also reduce the possible side effects of extensive use of anesthetics. At present, some scholars believe that perioperative use of opioids can affect the immune function of patients, and may be associated with the poor prognosis of tumor patients.…”

“…Other series with cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine surgery patient populations have also validated these findings. 76 Although research largely supports multimodal approaches to postoperative prescribing. Further research is necessary to continue drug combination optimization.…”

“…16 full text publications remained were scrutinized for conclusive identified. 4 of them were excluded because 2 did not report data of interest [13,14], one was currently ongoing study [15],one was review article [16]. All RCTs included in this meta-analysis were published between 2018 and 2019, with a total of 490.…”
