“…Recent case reports published in 2014 and 2018 reported 4 cases of widespread or recurrent Paget's disease that demonstrated complete response to PDT at up to 36 months of follow‐up . Studies comparing recurrence rates in patients receiving PDT versus surgery are sparse; however, a pilot study of 13 patients randomized to surgery or four sessions of ALA‐PDT followed by surgery resulted in local recurrence rate of 9.1% at one year compared to 25% ( P = 0.0042) . Although these results are promising, studies thus far lack randomized controlled clinical trials and scale …”

“…Among all the alternative treatments used for NMSC, also PDT should be highlighted, not only because of its high efficacy but also because of the excellent cosmetic results [28]. Sometimes lasers such as the CO 2 laser can be combined with PDT to remove some refractory lesions, as has been proved in our clinic.…”

“…Hence, alternative local treatments have been evaluated. Imiquimod 5% topical cream [9][10][11], photodynamic therapy [12,13] and radiation therapy [14] are the most frequently applied alternative treatments.…”

“…Radiotherapy was also ruled out according to the patient's desire. A topical approach with either photodynamic therapy or local immunomodulatory cream application, considered as less invasive, was presented to the patient [12,13,15,16]. None of these treatments are as effective as surgery but promising results are reported in literature, although controversial.…”
