A Proposal for Geography Competence Assessment in Geography Fieldtrips for Sustainable Education

Abstract: The geography fieldtrip is a well-consolidated learning mode, but may become a procedural teaching strategy in geography. In geographical education, fieldtrips foster students’ overall knowledge-building processes to become world citizens, and thus to be fully committed to the Earth’s sustainability. Fieldtrips prepare students for applying and connecting knowledge in a real context. However, the geography fieldtrip may lack robust proposals on challenges and achievements that are clearly identified as assessa… Show more

“…In engineering education demanding students to bridge the theoretical concepts in practical application to become proficient engineers. Actively observing the latent environmental changes resulting from evolutionary phenomena in natural environments can facilitate a deeper understanding of the core principles by engaging and stimulating learners' cognitive processes [28]. Yet, this statement, while acknowledging the surprising impact of weather on wastewater treatment, only scratches the surface of its engineering implications.…”

“…García et al applied deep learning to geography teaching and proposed a geography competence-oriented fieldtrip assessment framework. Through an analysis of students' learning effect, the authors proved that this method can help facilitate the mastery of knowledge [3]. Marques et al held that the teaching process of deep learning should pay attention to teaching design, such as attaching importance to students' subject activities and creating situated learning.…”
