A Programming Perspective of the Membrane Systems

Abstract: Abstract:We present an operational semantics of the membrane systems, using an appropriate notion of configurations and sets of inference rules corresponding to the three stages of an evolution step in membrane systems: maximal parallel rewriting step, parallel communication of objects through membranes, and parallel membrane dissolving. We define various arithmetical operations over multisets in the framework of membrane systems, indicating their complexity and presenting the membrane systems which implement … Show more

“…The natural way means that n copies of the object are used to represent the value of the integer operand. For instance, Ciobanu [12] built a P system to implement the arithmetic operations in this way. Guo [13,14] designed a single membrane to perform arithmetic operation resulting in simplifying the structure greatly and improving efficiency of the computations.…”

“…Literature [6] proposes arithmetic P systems without priority rules based on cell-like P systems and designs an algorithm to construct expression P systems according to arithmetical expressions and the design transmission rules. To positive operands, literature [7] implements arithmetic operation in a single membrane without priority rules. It not only simplifies the structure greatly, but also improves the efficiency of computations.…”
