Mate (Ilex paraguariensis A. St.-Hil) is an arboreal species of great economic and socio-environmental importance, which presents difficulties in the adventitious rooting process. The rhizogenic competence of vegetative propagules of mate can be attained by coppicing, but the factors that influence the success of this technique have not yet been elucidated. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of the stock plant, time of shoot collection, treatment with indolebutyric acid (IBA) and diameter of vegetative propagules in the adventitious rooting of cuttings from shoots induced by coppicing of selected adult plants of mate. Shoots produced from coppiced 13SM01 and 13SM05 stock plants were collected at different times of the year to prepare single-bud cuttings. The cuttings were measured as their diameter in the central portion and treated with 0 and 3000 mg L-1 of IBA. After 60 days, cuttings were evaluated to determine survival and rooting percentages, number of roots, and length of the three largest roots. A completely randomized design was used in a 4 × 2 × 2 × 13 (collection times x stock plants x IBA treatment x diameter classes) factorial scheme with 15 replications. Competence for adventitious rooting was highest for stock plant 13SM05. Cuttings collected in November and February had the highest rooting percentages, without the need of IBA treatment. Cuttings from 13SM01 and 13SM05 with diameters smaller than 0.636 cm (classes 1 to 6) and smaller than 0.712 cm (classes 1 to 7), respectively, had the highest rooting percentages and differed significantly from cuttings with larger diameters. Thus, the results of the present study indicate that stock plants, time of shoot collection, and diameter of vegetative propagules influence adventitious rooting competence of mate cuttings from coppicing adult plants. Rooting of mate cuttings with lower rhizogenic competence is influenced by the application of 3000 mg L-1 of IBA.

A presente pesquisa teve o objetivo de avaliar a taxa de crescimento da produção de folha seca de erva-mate no Brasil, em relação ao efeito sobre a área e sobre a produtividade. Para isso foi usado o modelo shift-share com o qual se verificou qual dessas duas variáveis mais contribuiu para a evolução da produção de erva-mate no país e nos estados do Paraná (PR), Santa Catarina (SC) e Rio Grande do Sul (RS) e em todo território nacional nos últimos anos no período de 1990 à 2015, estes dados foram obtidos através da base de dados do sistema SIDRA (Sistema IBGE de Recuperação Automática) do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE, 2016). Considerando os resultados obtidos, foi observado que neste período o estado do Rio Grande do Sul representa o maior percentual de produção de folha seca de erva-mate no Brasil e o principal fator que explicou o crescimento da produção de erva-mate foi o efeito área produtiva.Palavra-chave: produtos florestais não madeireiros, colheita de erva-mate, economia florestal. EFFECT OF AREA AND PRODUCTIVITY IN THE PRODUCTION OF YERBA MATE IN BRAZIL ABSTRACT:The present work aimed to study the technological evolution of the production of dry leaf yerba mate, in relation to the effect on the area and on productivity. A erva-mate é uma planta de ocorrência nos países da América Latina. Entretanto, maior parte encontra-se em estados brasileiros. Sua atividade confere significativa relevância econômica ao país, movimentando a cadeia agroindustrial que abrange desde a produção de sementes e mudas até a comercialização ao consumidor final. A crescente demanda pelo produto e a grande variedade de concorrência deixou o consumidor mais exigente com a qualidade sensorial do produto, desta forma a presente pesquisa objetivou avaliar a influência da embalagem e da quantidade de palito sobre a qualidade sensorial e a atitude de compra da erva-mate para chimarrão produzida em uma agroindústria da região. Os resultados mostraram que para os consumidores, sabor e aroma de erva fresca, pouca presença de palitos e cor verdinha definem a qualidade do produto e que o tipo de embalagem a vácuo apresenta capacidade de conservar os atributos sensoriais por um maior período de tempo. A porcentagem de palito pré-determinada pela empresa está dentro da faixa aceitável pelo consumidor. E a análise da umidade permitiu identificar que o padrão pode ser alterado gerando maior retorno financeiro à empresa.
