Abstract:This paper applies a recently proposed shafting design criterion to the special case of a diesel engine crankshaft, and shows how this criterion can be used in a probability -based approach to crankshaft design. This approach is then used to determine the reliability and life expectancy characteristics of an example crankshaft.Introduction:
