A Privacy-Preserving Location Assurance Protocol for Location-Aware Services in VANETs

Abstract: A location-aware service on a vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) is to provide services that distribute on-demand information for a certain geographic area of interest by taking advantage of vehicular communications. In this paper, we propose a secure and location assurance protocol in order to guarantee privacy preservation in vehicular communications and trustworthiness of location-aware services over VANETs. The proposed protocol enables a message verifier to have confidence that the location-aware informat… Show more

“…Gentry et al developed hierarchical ID-based cryptography (HIDC) based on the original ID-based cryptosystem, and HIDC has been proven to reduce the loading of private key generation and the risk of key escrow [17]. Several works have been proposed in the past two decades [18][19][20][21], including Santos et al's work, which is a lightweight federal identity management mechanism for IoT [22]. Moreover, Lin and Hsu [8] proposed a hierarchical ID-based cryptography for federal identity management in telemedicine in a 5G-IoT environment, which includes IoT gateways in the system structure.…”

“…Nevertheless, Yan et al's scheme [30] does not provide user anonymity. Park et al [31] proposed an HIDC scheme for VANETs which provided vehicle user anonymity, but it is not suitable for cloud computing. Shen et al introduced an HIDC scheme with time-bound and key management for multicast systems [32].…”
