This work aims to develop and characterize graphene oxide (GO) and glass fiber (GF)-based hybrid epoxy composites. Graphite oxide was synthesized by improved Hummers' method, and it was uniformly dispersed in ethanol by ultra-sonication to form GO suspension. Later, GO and GF-based hybrid epoxy composites were prepared by hand layup method followed by curing under compression to develop composite sheets accordingly to the ASTM standards (D3039 & D6110-18). Fourier transform infrared spectra of the neat and the GF-based hybrid epoxy composites confirmed the formation of improved interface between GO/epoxy and silane coating present on GF surface, which is well validated with the given reaction schematic. Scanning electron microscope and elemental mapping results corroborate our point that the GO filled the voids and empty spaces and lessened the water absorption properties of the composite which is much needed for the application of composites at high altitudes and marine environment. Effect of GO content on mechanical properties of prepared composites was studied by varying the GO content from 0.1 to 1.2 wt%. Taguchi methods and gray relational analysis are used to determine optimal processing conditions for the selective laser melting (SLM) of 18Ni-300 maraging steel. The following SLM process parameters are selected for optimization: laser power (P), scanning speed (v), and hatch spacing (h). Statistical analysis indicates that SLM parameter configuration no. 5 (275 W, 700 mm s À1 , 0.08 mm) as most suitable for the simultaneous improvement of tensile strength, elongation (or ductility), hardness, and impact toughness. The order of influence of SLM parameters is identified as follows: P % v > h. Samples with improved mechanical properties can be produced using configurations with higher linear energy density (E L ). This is because the increased laser energy input facilitates complete melting of metal powder, as well as better interlayer bonding between melt pools. Higher E L can be achieved by either increasing P or decreasing v. Digital image correlation analysis indicates that tensile test samples with higher porosity exhibit lower ductility due to its inability to accommodate plastic strain accumulation for prolonged durations. Fractography analysis indicates that during tensile loading, cracks will nucleate around the pore perimeter and propagate via microvoid coalescence. Fracture will occur at regions with higher porosity due to it having multiple crack initiation sites.

Discreteness of structural parameters and randomness of rail irregularities cause uncertainty in a train-bridge coupling system. We propose an efficient approach to carefully study the effect of these uncertainties on the dynamic responses of a bridge and vehicles. First, a compound stochastic vibration model of a train-bridge coupling system was established, employing the Monte Carlo method in the sample simulations. Second, the discreteness of the system parameters, the randomness of three types of rail irregularities, and the vehicle velocity were screened using the Taguchi method; influencing factors on the system dynamic responses were obtained. Third, the individual and joint effects of these factors were carefully studied using the response surface method function charts from a statistical point of view. Finally, we determined the optimal conditions of the dynamic responses.
