“…It is also stated that the stress expressed by mothers regarding the birth and hospitalization of their PNI in NICUs is more intense and may impact the way they relates to the infants. In addition, a higher level of stress is related to the need for mediation between professional activities and sharing with parental care, the prolonged stay of these mothers with their PNI in the NICU, as well as their biological and social role (4) .…”

“…Even when outcome domains were common to both quantitative and qualitative reviews, the nature of information from qualitative and quantitative studies differed. One example of this is found in trials utilizing the gastrointestinal health system domain: while quantitative studies (n = 61) tended to use a standardized outcome tool such as Bell staging for necrotizing enterocolitis to measure a specific outcome, the qualitative studies (n = 24) focused on the duration and meaning of feeding with such quotes as “I fully breastfed for four months, 100%, and I am so proud of that.” (p234)…”

“…Traditionally, after stabilization in the NICU, neonates stayed in special care units until they were fully breast-or bottle-fed and were then discharged into the care of their families. 6 In 1989, a formalized program of Neonatal Early Discharge (NED), also referred as an Early Discharge Program (EDP) was recommended in the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child (United Nations Human Rights, 1989). Such programs were thought to unite families sooner, allowing for earlier establishment of bonds and family adaptation.…”

“…Such programs were thought to unite families sooner, allowing for earlier establishment of bonds and family adaptation. 6 A NED program is an opportunity for a smoother transition between the neonatal unit and home. 5 In contrast to standard discharge from the NNU, preterm infants on NED programs go home requiring gavage feeding or supplemental oxygen therapy.…”
