A Preliminary Study: Validity and Reliability of Turkish Translation of Migraine Disability Assessment (Midas) Questionnaire in Turkish Patients With Chronic Tension Type Headache

Abstract: We have tested Turkish version of the Migraine Disability Assessment (MIDAS) questionnaire in patients with tension type headache. Thirty-two patients who had a tension type headache were included. Turkish version of the MIDAS questionnaire was applied to all patients. Additionally, the patients were asked to keep a 90-day diary. The day diary and the MIDAS questionnaire were compared at the end of the study period. We found that cronbach's alpha 0.82 and had good reliability. Our findings suggest that the MID… Show more

“…Proper correlations ( r > 0.5) were found between individual questions of MIDAS. We found a higher level of test-retest reliability among migraine patients rather than TTH patients, which points to a more stable condition among migraine patients because TTH per se is affected by multiple factors such as psychological items [19, 24]. …”

“…Although there is little variation in HRQoL between these headache groups, migraineurs report greater disability due to their headaches compared to TTH (19,(31)(32)(33)40), especially in work or school functioning (37). More missed days at school or work were reported by migraineurs, whereas reduced productivity at school or work was more prevalent among TTH patients (38,59,82,84). Solomon and colleagues (1994) used the SF health survey and found that CH patients had significantly worse pain scores with limited social functioning compared to the other groups, although physical functioning was preserved.…”

“…The most common types of CDH are chronic migraine (CM) and CTTH (5). Twenty-three studies were identified that evaluated HRQoL in CDH (12,36,45,51,52,72,76,77,78,(80)(81)(82)(83)(84)(85).…”

“…18 The MIDAS questionnaire was originally developed to evaluate migraine, but studies show that it may also be used to evaluate other types of headaches. 19 The definition and classification of different types of headaches are extremely difficult as they do not have either definitive laboratory tests or objectively defining markers. 20 Studies show that there is also a significant overlap in the clinic and diagnostic criteria which makes it difficult to differentiate tension type headache from Turkiye Klinikleri J Med Sci 2012;32 (2) other headache disorders and, in particular, migraine.…”
