A Preliminary Study on the Thermal Performance of a Ventilated Honey Cassette for Stingless Bees

Abstract: Abstract. Stingless bees are very sensitive to the changes of surrounding temperature. A report stated that fertility rate in broodcell is 0% when the broodcell temperature is higher than 34°C or lower than 26°C. In addition, propolis made honey pot in a honey cassette also could melt when temperature is high. Therefore, the objective of this research is to investigate the temperature profile of a ventilated honey cassette exposed to outdoor conditions, and to evaluate the temperature regulation in the hive us… Show more

“…Mekanisme ini akan menimbulkan suara dengungan yang agak keras di dalam sarang. Oleh karena itu, modifikasi tipe sarang diperlukan agar suhu tertinggi tidak melebihi 33ºC dan tidak menurunkan kualitas propolis (Basrawi, Hamid, Bahari, Noordin, & Yusof, 2017).…”

“…These sensors have several functions, but their main goal is to monitor and record temperature, humidity, and environmental data. This is particularly important for stingless bees since they are more sensitive to parameter changes compared to other types of bees [16][17][18].…”

“…A study by Harun et al, [13] focused on monitoring many environmental factors in real time. Basrawi et al, [14] and Ramli et al, [15] analysed the thermal performance of a vented honey cassette for stingless bees in order to compare the temperature of the honey compartment when ventilation holes are present compared to when they are not.…”
