“…The potentiometric method has been developed for Nafion ® membranes [26], SPEEK/TPA/MCM-41 composite membranes [27] and for Nafion-polyfurfuryl alcohol nanocomposite membranes [28]. The crossover rate of methanol is obtained from the recording of the potential (E) given by an electrode coated with a black Pt-Ru catalyst and immersed in an aqueous 0.2 M H 2 SO 4 solution as a supporting electrolyte during the methanol crossover.…”

“…Physicochemical characteristics of the soils were measured in the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Environmental Remediation and Ecological Health, China. Nitrogen, phosphate, and potassium contents of soils were measured by the colorimetric method (Onduru and Du Preez, 2007), pH was measured using a 1:2.5 (w/w) soil to water ratio (Chaturvedi and Sankar, 2006), redox potential (Eh) was measured by the potentiometric method (Munichandraiah et al, 2003), CEC was measured by an ammonium acetate method (Hendershot and Duquette, 1986), OM was measured by the Walkley Black method (Ryan et al, 2007), PSD was measured by the hydrometer method (Gee and Baunder, 1986), and Fe(II) and Mn(II) were measured by a chromatographic method (Schnell et al, 1998). Physicochemical characteristics of the experimental soils are listed in Table 1.…”

“…Thus, it has attracted attention worldwide. Several methods have been used to measure methanol crossover in DMFC [5][6][7][8][9][10]. Pukrushpan et al determined methanol crossover rates by continuously measuring the concentration of CH3OH, CO and CO2 in the exhaust gas of the cathode [5].…”

“…Amphlett directly measured methanol flux rates across Nafion® membranes by an electrochemical method using a flooded electrolyte cell with two compartments separated by a membrane, with various concentrations of methanol [7]. A potentiometric method reported by Prakash et al [8] showed that the slope (dE/dt) of the E versus t (time) curve is proportional to the crossover rate. The CH3OH crossover rate was calculated from the time required to reach the equilibrium concentration of CH3OH on either side of the polymer electrolyte membrane.…”
