A Post‐Synthetically Modified MOF for Selective and Sensitive Aqueous‐Phase Detection of Highly Toxic Cyanide Ions

Abstract: Selective and sensitive detection of toxic cyanide (CN(-) ) by a post-synthetically altered metal-organic framework (MOF) has been achieved. A post-synthetic modification was employed in the MOF to incorporate the specific recognition site with the CN(-) ion over all other anions, such as Cl(-) , Br(-) , and SCN(-) . The aqueous-phase sensing and very low detection limit, the essential prerequisites for an effective sensory material, have been fulfilled by the MOF. Moreover, the present detection level meets t… Show more

“…Sensing of CN À ion with MOF based sensory material is very rare till date. [8] In ar ecent report, our group demonstrated guest induced turn-on sensing of CN À ion in water medium. [9] In as trategic design, 3,6-diaminoacridinium cation (DAAC) wase mployed as marker of cyanidei on andb io-MOF-1 was used host of the DAAC molecules.…”

“…In the domain of anionic species, cyanide (CN − ) ion is a well‐known toxic and lethal species and has been listed as toxic chemical by both environmental protection agency (EPA) and world health organization (WHO). Sensing of CN − ion with MOF based sensory material is very rare till date . In a recent report, our group demonstrated guest induced turn‐on sensing of CN − ion in water medium .…”

“…Thus, the electron transfer in luminescent MOFs occurs from the MOFs to the guest molecule. As a result, most MOF‐based sensors are turn‐off type systems, where the fluorescence of the MOF is quenched by the analyte by photoinduced electron or energy transfer . This turn‐off fluorescence sensing mechanism ultimately limits the sensitivity of the MOF for chemical sensing.…”
