“…Finally, earlier studies had shown that the antagonist‐induced response in tissues exposed to opioid agonists and CCK‐8 was inhibited by clonidine, nifedipine ( Valeri et al ., 1990b ) and non‐steroidal anti‐inflammatory drugs ( Valeri et al ., 1993 ). It therefore had the same pharmacological characteristics as the withdrawal response obtained in tissues exposed to opioid agonists alone ( Chahl, 1985 ; Borrios & Baeyens, 1988 ; Johnson et al ., 1988 ; Valeri et al ., 1990a ).…”

“…Quercetin inhibits the formation of the inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins through its inhibitory action on cyclooxygenase activity [Melzig et al, 2001;Chen et al, 2001]. Chronic treatment with morphine increased prostaglandin activity [Scoto et al, 1979], and prostaglandins are reported to have a role in the development of morphine tolerance and dependence [Johnson et al, 1988], and cyclooxygenase inhibitors are reported to be effective in reversal of morphine tolerance and dependence [Powell et al, 1999] . The reversal of morphine tolerance and dependence by quercetin might be due to its inhibitory action on cyclooxygenase enzyme and prostaglandin synthesis.…”
