A pilot validation study for the NOX T3TM portable monitor for the detection of OSA

Abstract: In this small, clinic-based sample, the T3 demonstrated very good measurement agreement compared to PSG and a high degree of sensitivity for detecting even mild OSA. False positives appeared to be due to respiratory effort-related arousals (RERAs) being autoscored as obstructive apneas and may be due to inherent discrepancy in flow measurement sensitivity between PSG and portable monitors.

“…As in the study by Cairns et al, 2 we found close agreement between the automatic and manually edited scoring of the Nox-T3 recording. The mean difference between automatic versus manual edited scoring on both home and in-laboratory portable monitor recordings was less than 2 events/h (Figure 3).…”

“…However, the NOX T3, which is a portable respiratory sleep monitor was used for the majority of patients in the current study, has demonstrated a very good measurement agreement as compared to polysomnography. 39 Another limitation is that this is a cross-sectional study and therefore follow-up data regarding changes in depression after PAP treatment and the effect of depression on PAP adherence are missing. Another limitation is how few women were enrolled in this study but as stated previously, it is important to further study the relationship between depression and menopause in a larger sample of women with OSA.…”

“…However, sleep monitoring at home may be more representative, as children’s sleep in a hospital environment was reported to be atypical in one-third of patients [31]. Moreover, the used sleep monitoring devices ApneaLink Air and Nox T3 demonstrated good diagnostic performances in comparison to polysomnography in several studies [32, 33]. …”
