A pilot study of the effects of crocin on high‐density lipoprotein cholesterol uptake capacity in patients with metabolic syndrome: A randomized clinical trial

Abstract: A randomized clinical trial high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol uptake capacity (CUC) is reduced in patients with metabolic syndrome (MetS). We have assessed the effect of crocin supplementation on HDL CUC in patients with MetS. Forty-four subjects with MetS were randomly allocated to one of two groups: one group received placebo and the other group received crocin at a dose of 30 mg (two tablets of 15 mg per day) for 8 weeks. Serum biochemical parameters were measured using an AutoAnalyzer BT3000 (BioT… Show more

“…Accumulating data revealed that ginsenosides as an antioxidant and the main active constituent of ginseng, had a potential to e ciently alter TAM to the M1 subset of macrophages [30,31]. Since crocin has been used as a supplement in a number of clinical trial studies [32][33][34][35][36], these ndings highlight that crocin may possibly be able to modify the immune system of the recipient even in the absence of any in ammatory condition and also put emphasis on reassessing crocin administration as a preventive approach toward the diseases with a well-known etiology of M1 macrophage dominancy.…”

“…The aim of a decision tree is to form a predictive model in terms of predictor variables. In order to form the tree, decision tree algorithms make splitting criteria at internal nodes 20,21 . The split of a node tries to minimize the impurity of the node.…”

“…In order to form the tree, decision tree algorithms make splitting criteria at internal nodes. 20,21 The split of a node tries to minimize the impurity of the node. The node is not split and is characterized as a leaf node if a split is not able to achieve any enhancements with regard to reducing impurity.…”
