Abstract. The development of trunk pipelines network, taking into accont their operation in difficult climatic conditions, leads to the creation and the development of non-destructive testing methods to control the stress-strain state of the pipe itself, as well as welded joints. This work presents the results of studies of the microstructure, as well as the mechanical and magnetic characteristics of the metal cut from different zones of the welded joint of X80 strength class pipe steel.

The existence of an extensive network of main pipelines, both already operating and being con structed, which are exploited under complex climatic conditions, specifies the need for the development of methods of a nondestructive control for testing the current state of both the pipes themselves and the welded joints in the process of manufacture and subsequent service. In this work, we give the results of microstruc tural studies, as well as the mechanical and magnetic properties of different zones of welded joints (base metal, heat affected zone, and the weld) of pipe steels of the strength classes X70 and X80 produced using the method of controlled rolling. The influence of different modes of loading on the magnetic characteristic of the metal of all three zones of welded joints has been investigated. The magnetic parameters that unambigu ously characterize changes in the stress-strain state of the separate zones of the welded joint (weld, heat affected zone, base metal) have been determined in certain ranges of the applied stresses.

An extensive network of trunk pipelines, existing and under construction, working under hard environmental conditions necessitates the development of non-destructive testing techniques to be applied to diagnosing a current state of pipes and welded joints in the process of production and use. This paper reports on the results of the microstructural analysis and the study of the mechanical and magnetic properties of the different zones of welded joints (base metal, heat-affected zone material and weld material) in tube steels Х70 and Х80 made by controlled rolling. The effect of various loading conditions on the magnetic characteristics of the metals of the three zones is studied. Magnetic parameters uniquely characterizing the variation of the stress-strain state of the individual zones of a welded joint (the weld, the heat-affected zone, the base metal) in a certain range of applied stresses have been ascertained.
