Abstract:Background and Hypothesis: The pathogenesis of Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD) is multifactorial leading to inflammation. In BPD, Endothelial-Monocyte Activating Polypeptide II (EMAP II, encoded by Aimp1), a moonlighting pro-inflammatory cytokine, is initially found in bronchiolar club cells followed by intra-alveolar GAL-3+ macrophages. Sustained EMAP II mimics BPD, invoking inflammation, alveolar simplification, and macrophage recruitment. Targeted ablation of EMAP II in the recruited macrophages may dampen… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
