A PH‐Functionalized Polyphosphazene: A Macromolecule with a Highly Flexible Backbone

Abstract: The simplest side group: The first example of a completely H‐substituted polyphosphazene I is obtained by the polycondensation of (Me2N)2PNH2 in solution at low temperature. NMR investigations and light‐scattering experiments substantiate the constitution of the polymer. The conformation and a reaction pathway to I are proposed on the basis of ab initio calculations.

“…The mechanism shown in Scheme 4 also agrees with the work by Raab et al [16]; they also believed that the decrease of cross-linked products was mainly due to the larger dimension of BCl 4 − than Cl − which increased the spatial baffle effect and is the biggest excellence of the BCl 3 catalysis system [16]. A broad range of compounds, such as ethers, carboxylates, ketones, organometallic compounds (Et 3 Al 2 Cl 3 , AlCl 3 , AlEt 3 , Organ Tin) and Ziegler catalysts, are confirmed to have a positive or negative effect on the polymerization [17,18].…”

“…The isolation of the first PH-functionalized polyphosphazene by Niecke and coworkers represents a remarkable achievement in inorganic polymer science. 67 The polymer 24 was prepared by the ammonolysis of bis(dimethylamino)chorophosphine at low temperatures. Interestingly, analysis of the high polymer by NMR spectroscopy showed signals assigned to Me 2 N(HNQ)P(H)-and -NQP(H)-(NMe 2 ) 2 end groups in a polymer with about 500 repeating units.…”

“…Besides, the synthesis of polyphosphazene backbones can also be accomplished through transformation of the phosphoraneimine (Cl 3 PQNSiMe 3 ) or congeners [8,9]. This solution-state ''living'' cationic polymerization allows access to polyphosphazene with controlled molecular weight and narrow polydispersity.…”
