A Perspective on Computer-Based Training, CBT

Abstract: This paper presents a brief chronological review of computer-based training (CBT) and the author's experimental implementation of CBT application software through his learning and teaching experiences, which consist of his preparation for the IEEE Certified Software Development Professional (CSDP) exam, collegiate instruction of programming languages and teaching of information and communication technology (ICT) at high schools. This paper also discusses the data structure and features of CBT as a lifelong edu… Show more

“…Gradually, however, online learning capabilities and technology‐enhanced learning developed, often in the training and professional development area of university activities. Furthermore, they were often applied in a fairly task‐centred manner, emerging as they did out of computer‐based instruction and training, which tended to use fairly linear and often text‐based approaches to information presentation, punctuated by quizzes and online activities (Kulik & Kulik, ; Yoshida, ).…”

“…After the1980s, many new technologies like multimedia developed quickly and cone into wide use in CBT.Modern CBT development started to use virtual reality technology to simulate training environments, really bringing huge changes to training systems in aviation industry. Virtual reality technology is using the computer to simulate a three-dimension space and a virtual world, providing simulations of visual, auditory, tactile senses for user and creating a real immersive experience [3]. Users can observe things in three-dimension in real time without being limited. As for aviation industry, with its complexity, importance and high-cost, it requires a wealth of knowledge and ability.…”
